With COP28 in the news, BBC South East were looking for local companies that were doing their bit to help reduce emissions. They were really interested in how heata was connecting companies with intensive data processing to families in their community, enabling them to support the families with free hot water whilst reducing their climate impact at the same time.
You can watch the clip from BBC South East Today Evening News here:
Yvette Austin, the BBC South East’s Environment Correspondent, visited Irfan Walji and his young family, near Gatwick Airport, to find out a bit more about what it was like having the heata unit in their home. Irfan has been a real supporter of what we are doing and also very keen to be kept up to date with some of the heat unit stats, which he did a great job of communicating to Yvette.
"We've generated over ten tonnes of hot water, which is about 90 days of average use of hot water and about 226 showers.”
Yvette then spoke to Nick Homer at F10 Studios, based in Brighton, to find out why and how they were using our service. F10 create beautiful visualisations to bring to life new buildings, places and experiences. You can read more about the animation they rendered on the heata network and the impact that it had here:
Mike, one of our Co-Founders, also paid Irfan a visit as part of the piece – it was great to meet Irfan and his family, and see first hand the positive impact the heata unit was having. He was just sorry he had to dash before being able to take up the welcome offer of a cup of tea (it was very cold!).
Yvette was really interested to understand the opportunity and role heata could play in our evolving digital landscape and it was great that she picked up on the idea that heat from data processing had the potential to play a significant role in supporting the need for heat in society.
It was lovely to get such good exposure for what we’re doing, and for the connection between the users of the data processing and the families in our network, to be made so clearly. Thank you Yvette!
